The End of Democracy? Dismantling & Resistance

Organized by IEJI, in collaboration with UNM. Running from 8 to 19 June 2026, this course will examine the Trump Administration’s efforts to restructure and dismantle numerous federal agencies, roll back diversity, equity and inclusion policies, target universities and non-profit organizations, stigmatize immigrants, and curtail LGBTQ+ rights. Particular attention will also be devoted to the various forms of resistance that have emerged in response to these policies, including judicial action and the opposition led by several U.S. states against the Trumpist agenda.

The course will be delivered in a hybrid format, with in-person sessions held in Classroom 264, Departmental Building I, Vicálvaro Campus, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Academic credits will be awarded.

This is a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight, guided by a specialist in the field, Professor Nathalie Martin (School of Law – University of New Mexico) into the profound institutional crisis experienced by the United States since the rise of Donald Trump. Participants will also discover the Socratic teaching method commonly used in American universities — a dynamic and interactive approach that differs significantly from the more traditional lecture-based model often associated with European higher education.
