What is IEJI?

The Institute of International Legal Studies (IEJI-IILS) is a public non-profit entity. This university institute has three core objectives: to promote an efficient knowledge of the different legal systems in the world today, to encourage research in crucial legal issues in the field of comparative law, and to provide legal support to developing countries by strengthening their institutions.
The Institute of International Legal Studies (IILS) is a public institution created in 2005 by the Government of the Madrid Region (Comunidad de Madrid) within the structure of the Rey Juan Carlos University. Created in 1996 today it is the second largest of Madrid with 5 campuses in the Madrid Area, 46.000 students, including 5000 foreign students from 113 different countries, 2.500 professors, 80 different single degrees and 70 double degrees at the undergraduate level and 70 postgraduate degrees, recognized by the European Union. It is one of the most international Spanish universities and one of the most advanced in the implementation of new technologies in teaching and research.
The IILS was created for promoting Democracy and the Rule of Law in the era of globalization in an innovative way through the understanding and divulgation of hot legal issues and the development of skills for Students, Professors, Researchers and Legal Professionals in the International and Comparative Legal fields. About URJC

The Rey Juan Carlos University is the youngest public university in the Community of Madrid, although since its creation, its expansion has led it to offer a wide range of services at its four campuses: Alcorcón, Vicálvaro, Móstoles and Fuenlabrada. All of them have modern facilities and all the services for new students joining the institution.

Non nova, sed nove

Its motto, “Non nova, sed nove” (Not new, but in a new way), refers to its willingness to do things differently.

Goals

As its main medium-term goal, the institution has set itself “to enrich the individual and social opportunities for students in the Madrid region, with a clear emphasis on internationalization and research”. Excellence, quality, social function, collaboration with the business sector, and openness to new technologies also distinguish the URJC.

Comprehensive education and internationalization

The development of a comprehensive education in all these areas is complemented by the growing internationalisation of the university at all levels of the university community. Adapting to the demands of the world of work is another of its priorities, which is reflected in the increasing participation of companies in university activities and in the number of students taking part in work experience programmes.
